Since it started in 2018, the Community Garden at Allegheny Commons has been an exciting and successful project. Reclaiming a neglected parcel next to the Sue Murray swimming pool, the community garden has beautified an area while giving residents a space to grow food, flowers, and friendships.

Get Involved
To apply for a raised garden bed please visit:
Allegheny Commons Garden Application
Garden beds fill quickly. Potential gardeners will be added to a wait-list in the order their applications are received.
If you’re not interested in having a garden bed of your own there are lots of volunteer opportunities and fun events to get involved with! Go to our interest google group and click the “Join group” button at the top to receive email updates of the latest goings on.
Socialize
You don’t need to be a gardener to enjoy the garden! Follow along on social media to see what’s happening at the garden, attend events on our calendar below (click the + in the bottom right to add the calendar to yours), or email us to request to be added to the community garden interest emails. We also host weekly potlucks on Thursday nights at 6:30 (weather permitting), May – September. Come stop by to check us out and meet our welcoming community!
Charitable Donations
This year we are trying out a program for gardeners and friends of the garden to donate any of their extra herbs, fruits, and vegetables to the Community Fridge at the Garden Cafe! All items will be donated to the Community Fridge at the Garden Cafe at 1022 Chestnut St, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. If you would like to donate something from your garden plot, check out the bulletin board enclosure on the right side of the shed for details on how to donate any fresh produce from your plot.
You are also welcome to drop off items to be donated from outside the garden. Please see the list below of items that you can and can not donate to the community fridge. Perishable items can be handed off directly at the garden Saturdays at 10:30am. For non-perishable items, there is a labeled blue bin by the picnic tables where you can drop off these donations.
We’re really excited about this program and welcome anyone who would like to volunteer their time to be a part of this project! If you’re interested in volunteering for the Food Donation Project, please feel free to email food-donation-communitygardenacp@googlegroups.com.
